The Westside Creeks Restoration Project is
a community-based planning effort initiated in 2008 by
the San Antonio River Authority (SARA). Its mission is to:
1 - develop concepts
for restoring the environmental condition of the Alazan, Apache, Martinez and
San Pedro Creeks;
2 - maintain the current flood control components
of these creeks; and
3 - provide increased opportunities for people to
enjoy these urban creeks. The
Martinez Creek traverses Beacon Hill following the Beacon Hill Linear Park from
Hildebrand on the
north to the Community Garden and Gramercy on the South. The
Martinez Creek continues under IH-10
and Fredericksburg Rd, Woodlawn, Cincinnati, and Culebra before joining
with the Alazan Creek at
Farias Park. The Beacon Hill Area Neighborhood Association has been
actively involved in the
Restoration Project as a Westside Creeks Oversight Committee member and
on the Martinez Creek
subcommittee. The full restoration plan document can be accessed at
the below weblink, or you may
contact Abigail Kinnison for more information or to participate on behalf
of BHANA. Various segments of
the four creekways are scheduled to be improved beginning in 2012 through
the Linear Creek Greenways
Sales Tax monies managed by the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation
Department and the SA
River Authority.. For more
