April 2013 The
Beacon Hill Community Garden has received a grant from the Texas Native
Plant Society, to plant host and nectar native plants for Monarch
Butterflies. Visit: Native Plant Society of Texas
The Monarch waystations will be in the butterfly
garden in the Beacon Hill Community Garden and in the garden in the
southern end of the the Beacon Hill Linear Park near the playground.
Monarch
Butterflys are in serious trouble in large part, due to killing off of
the plant that Monarchs feed on. You can learn a lot from a
recent NPR radio presentation at the following link: http://www.npr.org/2013/04/12/177029257/monitoring-the-monarchs You will find both an audio link and a transcript of the conversation at that page.
You can learn more about the Monarch and its life-cycle at: http://www.monarch-butterfly.com/ and also: http://www.monarchwatch.org/waystations/ |
